The beginning of this growing season was a rough one with the cool and extremely wet weather conditions and Mother Nature has continued to challenge us with summer storms. Recently, a mega storm came out of the north and caused quite a bit of damage on the farm. The high winds managed to tear one of the barn doors off and damage our roof (see
pictures below). The storm also knocked out the power for 22 hours and we were concerned about the 27,000 strawberry tips being stored in the cold room. We are fortunate to have great neighbors who allowed us to borrow a generator so we did not lose any of the strawberry tips. We started setting the tips this week and currently have 5,000 done. This season has been one of the more difficult seasons, but we are optimistic about the late summer and fall harvest to come.
