Lots of things are happening on the farm right now.  We have new things sprouting up, and some produce that we have had is still going strong.  We are so excited to have such a wonderful year for produce and be able to share it with all of you.  Thank you all so much for supporting our farm and making this all possible.  That and Jon's awesome green thumb.

Blackberries are still happening.  Possibly another you-pick day for blackberries soon, so stay posted for details.
Cauliflower, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts are indeed sprouting.  These are all of our baby plants.

Pumpkins are going strong.  There was even a blossom starting on one of the plants yesterday.  We are super excite to start seeing pumpkins in the fields.
Tomatoes are all looking good, despite the heat. Look for them to make an appearance at the markets in the next few weeks.

These are Tango Donut peaches.  The yellow looks beautiful on the green leaves.
This is the produce that we have been having at the markets as of late.  The best fruit in southwest Ohio.

What is bio-control and pollination services?

Bio-control is the use of natural enemies of pests to control them, and pollination services are the spread of pollen by organisms such as insects to aid in plant reproduction.

The Agricultural Landscape Ecology (ALE) Lab of the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC) studies biology in working landscapes, which are modified by humans to provide shelter, food, fiber, and fuel.  Here, graduate student Ben Phillips and his research assistants are planting floral strips of sweet alyssum and native perennials in pumpkin patches to attract both insect pollinators such as bees and bio-control agents of harmful squash bugs and cucumber beetles that prey upon pumpkins.  They will be assessing if this is an effective and economically viable method of controlling these pests.  Branstrator Farm is very excited to be included in this project and really enjoys learning along side the OARDC crew.

Welcome to the new site!

Welcome!  Thanks for stopping by.  Over the past few months we have been trying to update and upgrade not only things with our online presence, but at the farm as well.  We are very excited to have a new site with a blog that we will try to keep updated daily.
Thank you so much to everyone who came to our Second Annual Snappin' Asparagus and Strawberry Festival in May.  It was a success and we couldn't have done it without our awesome patrons, volunteers, vendors, and the awesome local talent that came out to entertain us all.  We will be posting photos from the event throughout the week.  If you have photos from the festival we would love to see them!  If you are on Facebook, feel free to tag us in them.
We are still producing strawberries and will have them at the farmers' markets this week.  Every Tuesday from 3-7 PM we are at the Loveland Farmers' Market and every Thursday from 3:30-7 PM we are at the Madeira Farmers' Market.  We have also been bringing other produce with us as it becomes available on the farm.  The Donut peaches have been a big hit.  They are a very sweet peach with a white flesh.  They grow into a perfect snack sized peach.  Our triple crown blackberries have been a huge hit as well as our red raspberries.  We hope you all are able to get all the produce you are wanting.  We do understand that the demand is sometimes higher than the supply, and we do run out from time to time at the markets.  Hopefully that doesn't keep you from enjoying yourself and getting lots of yummy items to take home.
If you have signed up to receive our newsletter, bare with us.  We will be trying to get that out to you all as soon as we can.  We want you all to be well informed of where we will be and what produce we have available.  We also would like to keep you all up to date on the farm happenings.
